Romance with a Small Price Tag

Love in the air.  The Racine Love Show is a new event that combines music, artists and wellness. Described as “semi-formal,” it showcases local musicians, including Brent Mitchell, Byrell Lampkins & Curtis Crump, Mexico City is Sinking, ALPS and many more. There are also dance and poetry performances, local artwork and exhibits from wellness organizations and healers. It runs from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday at Preservation Hall, 740 Lake Ave. Admission is $5 and the Racine Love Show benefits the Racine Literacy Council.

Hit the ice without having to brave the bitter cold. The Petit National Ice Center in Milwaukee offers indoor skating for those stepping on the ice for the first time and those that regularly hit the rink. Adult tickets are only $7.50 each.

Show your adventurous and vulnerable side to your sweetie by lacing up your skates. Fall in love for the first time, or all over again, while gliding around the rink. Chances are by the time you leave you’ll be able to show off some of your fancy footwork.

Snowshoe Candlight Hike: Enjoy the winter wonderland at night with family, friends and loved ones while on the candlelight trail at Bristol Woods County Park. Warm up afterwards by fire. Chocolaterian Cafe, 2004 Atwood Ave., Madison: Maybe it’s a light meal you want so you can focus on wine and chocolate. This is the place to do that. Not to be missed is the chocolate raspberry cup made with gooey flourless chocolate cake remnants and raspberry puree; the one-of-a-kind, fudgy badger bait; or the “ugly” cookies.

If you’re headed to the center of Wisconsin for love, consider the chic Hotel Marshfield. Spend an evening under the stars at the Daniel M Soref Planetarium, the largest in the state, located in the Milwaukee Public Museum. The most romantic program in the planetarium’s repertoire is definitely “Romancing the Stars,” playing Valentine’s Day weekend only. Constellations that have romantic significance will be pointed out, and a rose and chocolates will also be handed out to each couple. $25 per couple and reservations are highly recommended!

Splash Studio’s Red-Hot-Love Fest: Bird’s Eye View in Milwaukee at Splash Studio: A Painting Bar. You can “Return to Romance” with your special someone(s). This year at the Richard Bong State Recreation Area in Kenosha is an adults only event. You can warm someone’s heart by taking a candlelit hike, or sitting by a warm fire sipping hot cocoa. In the beautifully-decorated Visitor Center, fine homemade desserts and warm drinks will be served.  Beautiful live music will be provided by the Broderie Recorder Consort and the Silver Wind Flute Trio.

The Bong Naturalist Association sponsors this unique event and all funds raised stay at the park to help with park improvements.  Attendance is limited.  Please pre-register and pre-pay.  Cost is $6/person in addition to the state park admission sticker: $8 per day for vehicles with Wisconsin plates / $11 for vehicles with out-of-state plates. The Sundara Inn & Spa in Wisconsin Dells has a bouquet of Valentine’s Day offers in February. The 130-minute Tranquility package takes place in a swank Spa Together treatment room.
