Summerfest starts today, June 27, 2012, when gates will open at 12 pm.
In 2012, The “World’s Largest Music Festival” and Milwaukee’s cornerstone summer event will celebrate its 45thAnniversary from June 27 – July 1 and July 3 – 8. Since 1968, Summerfest has provided unforgettable live music experiences for fans from around the world.
Summerfest attracts over 700 bands, including the music industry’s hottest stars, emerging talent and local favorites and hosts a diverse selection of food and beverage vendors, marketplaces and interactive exhibits set against the Lake Michigan and downtown backdrops, creating a festival experience like no other. Estimates show the park is expecting around 1 million people to walk through the gates over the 11-day span.
Changes to Summerfest this year include the brand new stage, the BMO Harris Pavilion, located near the Marcus Amphitheater. Officials have also taken extra precautions this year to combat the hotter-than-usual weather forecast. Look for mist tents, more ambulances, and plenty of water.
