Buying a home takes research, time and some education from your Shorewest, REALTOR®. It is easy to get caught up in aesthetic of the home, for example if you don’t like the paint or hardware, but don’t forget about the details you can’t change like the location or square footage. From the beginning of looking online at homes, to the final walk-through, here is some real life advice from previous home buyers!Home1. When you find the house you want to buy, do you feel like you are home? Many buyers describe a sense of belonging or a good feeling while walking through. Make sure you can imagine yourself living there!

2. Check the water pressure. Small thing to look at but it could be an expense that you don’t want to have to deal with later. So turn on some faucets and see if it works for you.

3. Look at the closets. You start and end your day there so make sure it is comfortable and will accommodate your wardrobe.

4. Take a walk around and pay attention to the floor plan and flow. Does it make sense for the way you like to live in your home? The amount of light and livability can greatly affect how a home feels to a potential buyer.

5. Visit your potential home during different times. Go at 5:00 p.m. when the traffic will be abundant. If it is near a park, go when there is a baseball game or a gathering. Does the noise affect you?

6. Big ticket items are the first things to check off your list. What condition are the roof, windows and heating system in?

7. Look at the things you can’t change. How do you feel about the location and square footage?

8. Check out your neighbors! You will be looking at the house across the street for a long time, is it neat or a garbage pile? Are your neighbors tolerable or would you like to exchange them?

9. Outdoor space is important. Do you have mature trees or is it a blank space? Will you be getting a lot of sunlight in the home during the day?

10. Take a walk around the community. How close are you to your most important amenities?
